Uses for the rDac are almost endless. Internet radio, set-top boxes and game stations can be connected via coaxial or optical leads to receive a dramatic increase in sound quality. PCs and Mac computers running music programs such as iTunes® or Windows Media Player can feed the rDac via its USB input where special re-clocking circuitry has been deployed almost eliminating the jitter (timing inaccuracies) and noise usually associated with music in the computer environment. To achieve this Arcam have teamed up with dCS (Data Conversion Systems), licensing their Asynchronous USB Technology. Both the AVR400 and the AVR360 are ARCAM’s latest additions to their stellar lineup of AV Receivers. The differences between the two is power output - with the 400 giving 7x90 watts and the 360 7x75 watts - and power supply - the 400 boasts a massive 1.5KW Toroidal transformer while the 360 uses a substantial 1KW transformer. FMJ AV888 High Definition Pre-Amp AV Processor $8500
The AV888 redefines both the feature set and sonic performance of high end AV processing and pre-amplification. It is the result of a massive two and a half year ground-up development program and features all new state of the art audio stages and balanced audio connectivity. Combined with its natural partner, the P777 amplifier (see below), the AV888 represents a new standard for AV amplification. Wolfson 8741 Digital to Analogue converters are deployed across all eight channels bringing ultra linear conversion of digital audio signals. Individual, multi-regulated power supplies feed all critical audio stages with studio grade Burr Brown DRV134 balanced line drivers used for balanced audio outputs to drive longer cable runs or active speaker configurations with extreme fidelity.
To help eliminate the large volume jumps often found in broadcast TV sound user selectable Dolby Volume* processing is included, a world’s first for an AV processor. In addition Dolby Volume includes programme dependant tonal correction to deliver a richer, more realistic sound experience at low listening levels.
The AV888s internal video processing delivers sublime video using broadcast quality scaling and frame rate conversion from Pixelworks. FMJ P777 Multi Channel Power Amplifier $6500
The P777 is a natural partner to the AV888 AV Processor in high performance home cinema installations. Using Sanken output devices with ultra-stable thermal management the P777 offers huge power and control with even the most demanding material. Subtle detail is retrieved with startling realism. Over 1.6kW of continuously available power is available to drive loudspeakers with clarity and precision and control. Substantial heat sinking and a computer controlled fan cooling system ensure it remains cool even under extreme duress with a predominantly aluminium construction ensuring chassis temperatures are kept low while electro-magnetic interference is kept away from delicate audio signals. The Two oversize toroid power transformers feed the seven power amplifier channels with separate secondary windings for each channel. The centre channel, often the most important as it carries dialogue information, is fed from both transformers for maximum performance. The Arcam development team have left nothing to chance while designing the P777. Literally hundreds of hours critical listening and fine tuning ensure it is equally at home with movies or music and will delight all who experience it. 7 x 150 watts per channel at 8 ohms.




FMJ BDP100 Blu-ray Player $1599
ARCAM’s long anticipated Blu-ray player with in-house developed circuitry is now a reality. The BPD100 uses a very simple, almost direct video path from the disc right through to its high precision outputs. This very direct path allows the video signal to be presented without unnecessary disruption giving a presentation that will truly captivate the viewer. Using broadcast quality digital video clocks during the process means the resulting picture quality is simply stunning. To ensure the BDP100’s music performance meets the same “reference” standards the class-leading Wolfson Audio 8741 digital to analogue converter (DAC) is used. This device, coupled with a linear phase Bessel output filter and high precision re-clocking system results in an audio performance comparable to a dedicated audiophile CD player. Even the BDP100’s power supply has been specially designed for outright performance. As with all its FMJ units, Arcam has gone to incredible lengths to maximise the performance of this new player. As an example the BDP100 benefits from a critically damped cover to virtually eliminate damaging microphonic vibration from reaching the sensitive electronics inside. In addition, while other Blu-ray devices can suffer from slow disc load times, the BDP100 has been optimised to make the journey from disc insertion to playback as fast as possible.
